Six Degrees of Automotive Separation: Matford and Walter

Okay, the last couple of Hemmings Six Degrees of Automotive Separation Challenges provided some quick shortcuts, but we can almost guarantee that you’ll need at least five connections to link our choices for this week: Matford and Walter.

The former should be familiar to early Ford enthusiasts as the vestigal effort of Ford Motor Company to expand into France. The latter should be familiar to any truck enthusiast, especially one that hangs around airports and pays attention to the crash response vehicles and snowplows. Of course, the photo above, of a car familiar to longtime readers of the Hemmings Auto Blog, depicts neither, but should provide a clue to solve this little puzzle.

The rules, as before, are simple: A connection consists of one company owning another, merging with another or sharing another’s parts. Explain your connections, and as before, the point isn’t necessarily to do it in the least number of connections, but to do it with style and with obscure connections.

Oh, and one caveat: You may not use Ford as a connection. That would make things just too easy, wouldn’t it?
