Tom Carsten’s Allard

| суббота, 25 июля 2009 г.

Sydney Allard, a British fella, designed one hell of a sports car in the early 1950’s and called it the Allard J2. The design was so successful that it’s racing victories made stories around the world. It wasn’t long before American hot rodders were licking their chops trying to get at the car and Allard was forced to supply the demand. He shipped them to the US sans motor and the Yanks typically installed home bread flatheads, Hemis, Olds, and Cads.

One such Yank was Tom Carsten. He bought his Allard in 1951, quickly installed a Cad motor, and went racing with Bill Pollack (then a grad student) at the wheel. Put simply, the combination was unstoppable and the team dominated the American road racing scene for a number of seasons… I know, I know… You all know the story… BUT, have ya ever seen the Carsten J2 in full motion video? I hadn’t…
