Carbon Fiber price goes through the roof

Strange as it may sound there is an apparent shortage of the spectacular product that is both strong and very light, carbon fiber!

We see that this product is used for the bodywork of many cars involved in motor sport due to is versatile nature, as it starts off like a fabric which can be cut and then molded into more or less whatever shape the designers need, this can be the parts of the body work that you can see and other parts like suspensions arms etc, but this has now moved on and can be found in road cars too, this has created a demand for the product but not enough to create a shortage.

The main culprits for the shortage is the aero industry, with two major players Boeing and Airbus who are both trying to compete for the large airliner market with their new planes the Boeing 787 and the Airbus A350, both these aircraft require a significant amount of carbon fiber, thus have created the shortage and subsequent price rise from $5 per pound up to $20 per pound, this price increase is going to effect prices across the board, with some auto makers having to increase their prices in order to make the price adjustment.

But there is one group within the auto industry who will be hit very hard, the car owners who love to modify their cars with spoilers, hoods and other performance parts, these will be in short supply and therefore it will naturally follow that prices will increase further.
